Disjointed, is the word to describe the 2nd XV this weekend. Even though the boys put in a really strong effort, it was not enough against a more determined group that forced themselves upon the Scottish 2nd XV.
On the day you can generally tell how the boys will play during the warm up, and our process working up towards kick off was not as good as it normally is, this weekend. Although the boys came out firing within the first 20 minutes, scoring the first try – the next 60 minutes was a tussle and a struggle.
Missing tackles and not keeping the feet moving to get to the next sequence really made it harder to impose ourselves on the game. Along with the increasing penalty count, we could not get the “go forward” momentum that we needed.
Overall, the team cohesion and continuity in our play needs to improve against an even tougher opponent against Peterborough, where we squeaked by with the narrowest of margins in our first encounter.
